Reluctantly Remote or All in Online: COVID-19 Changed the Way I Teach for Good - Roundtable

COVID-19 has presented higher education with a disruption that some argue was long overdue. Seemingly overnight, the pandemic forced us to rethink and retool our teaching methods, our students' access to course content, as well as our interactions with them and assessment of their learning. For many, when technology either saved the day, made things worse, or both, the switch to remote or online teaching was a learning experience itself. Perhaps you discovered online alternatives to assigned readings, like open educational resources or electronic texts; partnered with the library or student services for instructional or non-instructional support; implemented universal design for learning; developed effective asynchronous or synchronous lesson plans; established remote classroom management strategies that worked; engaged students using video conferencing tools; connected with students while you or they had unreliable internet access; revised quizzes, examinations, essays, or presentations to accommodate emerging challenges; or made grading more efficient using the tools of a learning management system. In this informal roundtable session, tell us what you did to made good of a bad situation, and how the experience continues to do some good for you and for your students. Each speaker will share their thoughts for 5-10 minutes, followed by open conversation, support, sharing, and perhaps debate between participants and the audience.
Panelists may be invited to contribute to an open resource repository for materials related to remote or online composition, literature, or language instruction.

Panelists will be notified of acceptance or rejection by October 15, 2020. NeMLA membership is not required to submit abstracts. However, if your abstract is accepted to a session and you agree to present at the convention, you will be required to pay for membership and convention registration.
