Call for Proposals!

Organized by the students in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies (IGS) program at the University of British Columbia - Okanagan, our conference mission is to bring together folks who are invested in interdisciplinary work. Our Fall 2023 Conference theme, An Interdisciplinarian’s Toolbox: Emerging Practices and Methodologies for Crossing Disciplinary Boundaries, focuses on the ways in which we engage in interdisciplinary research, further reflecting on how these processes may give rise to new ideas, knowledge, and change.

We encourage students whose research evades traditional disciplinary boundaries, incorporates practices from multiple disciplines, or engages with research in other disciplines to apply to present. You can present in two streams: Stream One will be comprised of poster presentations delivered in five-minute blocks, followed by periodic magnet breakout opportunities where attendees and presenters can connect informally. These presentations may be centred on your thesis research work at any stage or any other academic topic you wish to explore through an interdisciplinary lens. We encourage creativity in presentation format if appropriate to your topic or discipline(s). Stream Two will bring together different perspectives on a common theme or topic which will be derived from the proposals we receive. Applicants submitting common themes may be asked to join a one-hour, moderated panel discussion following a pre-determined topic with an opportunity for audience-engaged Q&A.

Deadline for proposal submission is August 11, 2023, 11:59 pm (PST).

The conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, September 28 & 29 at the UBC Okanagan campus in Kelowna BC.

Submit your proposals via interdisciplinary.ca/present and feel free to reach out to igsstudentsociety@gmail.com with any questions you might have.
