CALL FOR PAPERS
Nostalgia
A hybrid/virtual student conference hosted by the University at Albany
March 15th, 2024
10 am- to 4 pm EST
Official site: http://egsoalbany.weebly.com/conference.html
“Nostalgia," coined in 1688 by physician Johannes Hofer, originally described a medical condition marked by a painful longing for one's native land. Over time, nostalgia has evolved, encompassing both personal and communal aspects, with debates ranging from its temporal significance to its political and rhetorical dimensions.
We welcome proposals for both critical and creative projects from literary/cultural studies, creative writing, theoretical/composition studies, and other adjacent disciplines.
We hope for this conference to incorporate multiple ways of examining nostalgia and encapsulating the vast interests and experiences of nostalgia. Some topics may include (but are not limited to):
– yearning and longing
– absence
– ethics, politics, & morality
– storytelling
– the rhetoric of nostalgia
– transnational/or global climates
– nostalgia as a cultural product
– visual/or multimodal representations of nostalgia
– identity making
– place-making
