Extended Deadline - American Afterlives
Please consider submitting a proposal for our third edition of “American Afterlives” @ the 52nd annual Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture, February 17-18, 2025 (virtual) and February 20-22, 2025 (in person).
The LCLC seeks submissions for “American Afterlives,” a dedicated panel stream that crosses the pre-1900/post-1900 divide. Presentations will focus on ways of rethinking the chronologies by which we structure stories and studies about American literature and culture. Previous panels and papers have considered aesthetic experiments and traditions, remediations of early American texts, speculative and historical fiction, cultural histories of technology, and more.
The LCLC’s traditional post-1900 focus presents a marvelous opportunity for scholars of earlier and later periods to reach new audiences and share work that unsettles and/or reconstructs our senses of American literature and culture. Critical, creative, and pedagogy presentations, as well as fully-formed panels on our general theme, are all welcome.
You can submit your proposals at lclc@louisville.edu. The extended deadline is October 18, 2024. Please indicate your interest in “American Afterlives” in your proposal, and please indicate your preference for virtual or in-person participation. Further instructions for submission materials and general information about LCLC can be found here.
Being mindful of the financial challenges of conference travel and housing, please know that LCLC does not require separate membership fees; we offer reduced registration rates for graduate students, contingent faculty, and independent scholars; and we offer both virtual and in-person options. Please reach out to Dr. Mark Alan Mattes (mark.mattes@louisville.edu) if you have any questions.
