CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

One-Day International Conference

Pakistani English Literature and the UN 2030 Agenda

Conference Date

February 20, 2025

(Hybrid Mode)

The 21st century presents unprecedented global challenges, including climate change, poverty, inequality, social justice, and the pursuit of sustainable development. The United Nations' 2030 Agenda, comprising 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offers a comprehensive framework for addressing these issues and transforming the world into a more equitable and sustainable place. As a reflective and transformative medium, literature has the unique ability to foster understanding, raise awareness, and inspire action toward these global goals. Pakistani English literature, an emerging and dynamic field, holds significant potential to contribute to conversations on sustainable development.

This is the first-ever conference of its kind, organized by literary academia in Pakistan, aiming to explore the unintended yet profound intersections between Pakistani English literary narratives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These intersections address themes such as inequality, human rights, gender dynamics, environmental sustainability, and global citizenship. The event will provide a critical platform to examine how socio-political realities depicted in Pakistani English literature resonate with global challenges, transcending local contexts to engage with universal concerns. Through thematic discussions, the conference will raise awareness about how Pakistani literary works, though not explicitly written under the SDGs framework, inadvertently contribute to the global discourse on sustainability.
