SAMLA November 2025: Innovative Approaches to Teaching Creative Writing

deadline for submissions:
July 28, 2025
full name / name of organization:
Julie Boutwell-Peterson / University of Kentucky

Please note: This CFP is for the SAMLA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia Nov. 6-8, 2025:

Creative writing classes at the university level tend to have a lot in common—craft lectures, readings, pastiches, and critique sessions. Yet how instructors approach the details can differ widely. This Special Session invites presentations on innovative teaching practices in the creative writing classroom with a special focus on the particulars: a craft lesson that especially resonates with your students, a creative syllabus in both form and content, a writing assignment that receives surprisingly good submissions, etc. The goal is to share what’s working well for you and your students—and for us all to learn from each other. By July 28, 2025, please submit an abstract of your proposal on the SAMLA website: https://southatlanticmla.org. Include any documents that would accompany your presentation (an assignment, a reading, a lesson plan, a syllabus, etc.), a brief bio, and any A/V or scheduling request. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Julie Boutwell-Peterson at julie.boutwell-peterson@uky.edu.
