Intégrité is a scholarly journal published biannually by the Faith and Learning Committee and the Humanities Division at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Missouri. Published both online (https://www.mobap.edu/about-mbu/publications/integrite/) and in print, it welcomes essays for a special issue (Fall 2027) on “Elvis Presley and Theology.”

2027 marks the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death on August 16, 1977.

Essays in this special issue may explore any aspects of the intersection of Christian theology and Elvis Presley’s life, death, and the afterlife of his work. As a faith and learning journal, Intégrité also invites pedagogical essays that address teaching Christian theology and Elvis Presley’s art at faith-based institutions of higher learning.

Possible topics include, but are not restricted to, the following:

  • Elvis Presley and Southern Pentecostalism (Assemblies of God)
  • What the Blues taught Elvis Presley about Suffering and Salvation
  • Elvis Presley, lifelong devotee of Gospel Music
  • The commingling of the sacred and the secular in Elvis Presley’s life and art
  • Christology and the Two Kings: Jesus and Elvis
  • The Bible in/and Elvis Presley
  • Elvis Presley and Country Music
  • Sin and Hope in Elvis Presley’s Christian Worldview
  • Christian Theology and the Million Dollar Quartet
  • Elvis Presley as Mythic Figure
  • Vegas Elvis and the Prosperity Gospel
  • Stages of Faith in Elvis Presley’s Biography and Discography
  • Take Up and Read: On Elvis Presley’s Spiritual Library
  • Pilgrimage(s) to Graceland, Graceland as Postmodern Shrine
  • The Afterlives of Elvis Presley, or, The Reception History of Elvis in Popular Culture
  • Today’s Elvis, or, Elvis-as-Religion on the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death

For this issue the journal also welcomes brief reviews or review essays of books published since 2015 that explore topics related to Christian theology, Elvis Presley, Southern culture, and pedagogy. Additionally, the journal is interested in poetry inspired by Elvis Presley

Essays should be 15-25 pages in length, and book reviews should be 5-8 pages.

For citation style, refer to the current edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.

Articles should include in-text citations in parentheses, a list of endnotes (if applicable), and an alphabetical listing of works cited at the end.

Proposals and abstracts may be submitted until August 16, 2026.

Essays are due no later than March 1, 2027.
