Resurgens Theatre Company, along with the Georgia State University Department of English, is pleased to announce our fourth biennial conference on early modern verse drama by Shakespeare and his contemporaries, “Shakespeare’s Apocrypha Now.” We’re calling for papers that examine some aspect of Shakespeare’s non-canonical plays, i.e., those dramatic works that have been or are currently attributed to Shakespeare (as a whole or in part) that have yet to receive widespread scholarly and/or theatrical recognition. We particularly welcome topics on canonicity, collaboration, and performance-oriented concerns regarding Renaissance drama and/or early modern print culture. The conference will be held on September 25 and 26, 2026, at the historic Pythagoras Masonic Temple (108 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030—six miles from downtown Atlanta and on the MARTA rail line from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport). We’re still preparing the schedule, but our evening activities will include performances of Mucedorus and The History of Cardenio, produced especially for conference attendees by Resurgens. 

With the assistance of the GSU Dept. of English, we plan to publish a selection of papers from the proceedings in Studies in the Literary Imagination. If you’re interested in presenting, please submit a 200-word abstract to Dr. Emma K. Atwood (eatwood@montevallo.edu), Dr. Brent Griffin (resurgenstheatre@gmail.com), and Dr. Paul Voss (pvoss@gsu.edu) by Monday, August 17. We welcome proposals from graduate students and early career researchers.
