How do premodern texts and material cultures conceptualize weathering–the physical registration of time, climate, and material contact on the surfaces of flesh and stone? How do varying forms of premodern care, craft, maintenance, repair, or reconstruction sustain objects subject to decay? This panel approaches medieval materiality by considering the shared structural vulnerability that defines life within both bodies and buildings. We welcome proposals from all disciplines (such as digital, archival, and manuscript studies, the health humanities, archaeology, ecocriticism, and the history of emotion) and are especially interested in representing a wide range of methodologies, including nontraditional approaches.

If you are interested, please apply by September 15, 2026. Presenters will need to submit a proposal via the Confex system in order to be considered. Acceptance notifications will be sent by October 15.
