The “Authorship and Auteurism” area of the Midwest Popular Culture
Association/Midwest American Culture Association is now accepting proposals
for its upcoming conference. The MPCA/MACA conference will be held
Friday-Sunday, October 30-November 1, 2009 at the newly restored Book
Cadillac Westin in Detroit, Michigan.

This panel seeks papers that analyze any aspect of auteur theory or
authorship studies. Topics may explore any popular medium or cultural
production from any time period or country. Of particular interest are
papers that focus on authorship and auteurism within the contexts of
corporate conglomeration, “globalization” and transnationalism, and
technological convergence.
Potential topics relevant to authorship may include:

-New media and technology (transmedia authors, etc.)
-Authorship in the age of postmodernity and globalization (transnational
auteurs, etc.)
-Auterism after the “death of the author” (author functions and
malfunctions, corporate authors, etc.)
-Authorship and auteurism as historical, geographical, and/or cultural
-Class and economics
-Race and ethnicity
-Gender and sexuality
-Narrative and genre
-Aesthetics and style
