"Is That A Bomb in His Purse?: Gender, Sexuality, and
Ultraviolence Contemporary Irish Film."
Midwest MLA conference in Cleveland, November 8-11.
This session is interested in the relationships between
gender, sexuality, and ultraviolence as depicted in
contemporary Irish film. How are gender and sexuality issues
constructed through the use of violence—specifically in
Ireland? Topics may include: stressed masculinity,
homosexuality and transvestitism, feminine power, cultural
identity constructs, censorship, etc. Special interests:
Patrick McCabe, Martin McDonagh, Peter Lennon, and Neil
Jordan. 300 word abstracts to Matthew Schultz,
