CFP: [Gender Studies] Masculinities, Femininities and More â An Interdisciplinary Conference on Gender in the Humanities

Sponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the
University of West Georgia (23rd Annual Conference): November 6-8, 2008
in Carrollton, Georgia.

We welcome submissions from scholars in all areas of the humanities,
including foreign languages and literatures, English, philosophy,
theater, art history, music, and cultural studies. Papers may be read in
English, German, Spanish, or French. Conference participants will be
encouraged to expand and revise their papers for submission to a special
issue of JAISA: The Journal of the Association for the Interdisciplinary
Study of the Arts.

Suggested topics include but are not limited to the following:
o gender in visual culture
o gender in genres of popular culture (e.g. the graphic novel,
sitcoms, soap operas, etc.)
o gender in particular literary genres
o gender in particular literary periods (e.g. Romanticism, Realism,
Naturalism, Modernism, Postmodernism)
o gender and authorship
o gender in cinematic genres (e.g. science fiction, the Western,
horror, film noir, melodrama, action films, war films)
o gender and performativity
o gender as masquerade
o gender and sexual orientation
o cross-dressing
o female masculinities and male femininities
o subversions of gender in all areas of the arts
o gender and psychoanalysis
o gender and desire
o gender and ethnicity
o gender as a philosophical concept
o gender and religion
o gender and music

Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis.
