BOOK COLLECTION: The Rhetoric of Interruption

The Rhetoric of Interruption will investigate the use of interruption—
linguistically, narratively, politically, and socially—in both fiction
and non-fiction as a medium through which writers register protest,
discontent, resentment, and/or other forms of resistance to social,
ideological and/or political institutions. We invite essays that
consider interruption in a variety of sociological and literary contexts—
in essays, novels, short stories, autobiographies, film, television,
drama, essays and other forms of popular culture. We are particularly
interested in ‘interruptions’ into the sex/gender system—this includes
understandings of sex, gender, desire, sexuality, identity, masculinity,
femininity, feminism and so on. We also welcome new definitions of
interruption from the traditional ‘but’ of linguistic stoppage to other
figurations.

Abstracts of 500 words and a C.V. should be emailed to
Jennifer.A.Rich_at_hofstra.edu and engdsm_at_hofstra.edu by September 1, 2008.
Please put ‘Abstract Rhetoric of Interruption’ on the subject line of the
email.
