The area on girlhood studies is returning for its second year at the
Southwest/Texas Popular and American Culture’s Annual Conference. This
area aims to discuss a variety of topics related to girls, growth,
identity, or socialization of this unique population.

Paper proposals covering any aspect of girlhood or female coming-of-age
will be reviewed for acceptance. Please send queries, 250 word paper
proposals, or 500 word panel proposals, including full contact info for
all participants for review to area chair by deadline of December 1,
2008. Please include a short bio listing previous and current research
activities; no full CV needed.

Interdisciplinary approaches and all scholarly fields are welcome. Also,
as this is a popular culture conference, presentations that depart from
traditional reading encouraged. Presenters also need not have a
university affiliation; we embrace all forms of experiential knowledge.
Graduate students are especially encouraged to submit proposals.
