GERMAINE DE STAEL TODAY: CURRENTS AND CROSS-CURRENTS

“New Trends in Women’s and Gender Studies” (Roundtable). Rudy de Mattos,
Department of Foreign Languages, Louisiana Tech University, PO Box 3086,
Ruston, LA 71272; Tel: (318) 257-5249; Email: demattos_at_latech.edu
Research on Germaine de Staël’s life and work have greatly contributed to
the development of research on other French women authors and in Women’s
and Gender Studies and vice versa. In a round table format we will look
at new trends in WGS.
This round table will bring together 5-6 scholars, junior scholars or
Graduate students to promote discussion of relating trends in WGS.
Possible topics may include – but are not limited to -- what are the
changes in recent research on Germaine de Staël? What is the next stage
of feminist studies regarding Germaine de Staël and her female
contemporaries?; what women authors have been recently uncovered? What
influence of Germaine de Staël can we see in lesser known women’s writing
of the time?

The 5-10 minute roundtable presentations will be followed by a broader
discussion with the audience in attendance. Please submit your proposal
to Rudy de Mattos – demattos_at_latech.edu by November 13
