University of Oxford Fin de Siècle Seminar, 1870-1930

Fin de Siècle is an interdisciplinary seminar series based at the
University of Oxford, which aims to develop fresh perspectives on
literature, society, and the arts in the United Kingdom between 1870 and
1930. The Fin de Siècle period is one of vibrant contrasts: social
regeneration and decay, the rise of colonialism and socialism, literary
censorship and innovation. In the seven years since its inception, the
series has provided a lively forum for both graduates and established
academics, hosting presentations on subjects as diverse as publishing and
the Wilde trials, travel writing and the feminist movement, socialism and
the occult.

We are currently inviting papers for the 2007-8 academic year. Papers
may vary in length between thirty minutes and one hour, with
interdisciplinary and comparative papers particularly welcome. The Fin de
Siècle series continues to attract a broad community of researchers both
within and outside Oxford, who value its atmosphere of rigorous scholarly
discussion and rampant debate.

If you would like to present your work, be included on the Fin de Siècle
mailing list, or make further enquiries, please contact Dúnlaith Bird at
St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. Proposals (of no more than 200 words)
must be received by 7th September 2007.
