The award-winning University Press of North Georgia invites submissions for
its second publication on the Artist as Activist in the Appalachian South.
North Georgia College & State University, our parent institution, is the
Leadership university of Georgia, and this publication will build on this
strength by examining leadership in the arts. For this publication, we
will consider art in terms of words and/or image. Also, we will consider
activism as work that tends toward achieving positive, sustainable social
change and/or justice.

This publication will include both original, artistic works of activism and
scholarly articles or essays examining the works of artist activists. We
invite original creative activist work in various genres, including but not
limited to music, folklore, literature/poetry, painting, photography, and
drama. We also invite scholarly articles and essays on Southern
Appalachian activist artists whose works consider issues including but not
limited to the American Indian, Civil Rights, Disability Rights, Economic
Justice, Education, Equal Rights, the Environment, Globalization, Labor,
War, and Women’s Issues.

Deadline for submissions: Dec. 1, 2007

Please send three double-spaced copies of your manuscript to
