Call for Papers on Academic Administrative Leadership at the Department
Level The 39th CEA Conference, St. Louisâ€"27-29 March 2008
We welcome submissions on the following topics as they relate to
administrative leadership on the departmental level (Chairing, Program
1. Developing and Coordinating Internships for Literature and Writing
Majors: Issues, Tips and Guidelines.
2. â€œCan You Hear Me Now?â€: Creating Lines of Communication between the
Administrator and the Administrated.
At its conference, CEA, a vibrant organization, has always celebrated
scholarly activity in many forms: traditional literary criticism, writing
theory, writing and literary pedagogies, and extrinsic studies as they
relate to the conference themes or its special topics.
We also value the role that administrative academic leadership plays in
meeting the goals and objectives of a well-run department, centre, or
program: providing services, developing curricula, developing programs,
creating opportunities, and fostering collegial atmospheres for both
faculty and students. Consequently, each year at our national conference,
we run a few panels that address administrative leadership issues.
CEA prefers to receive all submissions electronically through our
conference management database housed at the following web address:
Electronic submissions open on September 5th and close on November 1st.
Abstracts for proposals should be between 200 and 500 words in length and
should include a title.
Submitting electronically is a two-step process: 1) setting up a user ID,
then 2) using that ID to log inâ€"this time to a welcome page which provides
a link for submitting proposals to the conference. ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS
DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1, 2007.
Emailed submissions will not be accepted; electronic submissions must come
through our submission site listed above following the easy two step process.
If submitting a fully composed panel, panel organizers should create user
IDs for all proposed participants.
Though CEA prefers to receive proposals through the conference database (as
it facilitates communication about the conference in a smooth and timely
manner), we will accept HARD COPY PROPOSALS POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN
OCTOBER 15th, via regular mail. Hard-copy proposals should include the

*Title for the proposed presentation & indication of special topic category
*Abstract of 200-500 words
*Special needs, if any
*A-V equipment needs, if any (AUDIOVISUAL REQUESTS: Please make all A-V
equipment requests when you submit your proposal by checking the
appropriate box in
the online proposal submission form or by including your request in the
proposal. Any participants offering PowerPoint programs must bring their

PANEL ORGANIZERS SHOULD INCLUDE THE ABOVE INFORMATION FOR ALL PROPOSED
PARTICIPANTS. If you are willing to serve as a session chair or
respondent, please indicate this in your cover letter.
