Book’s Way, a leading academic publishing house in Eastern India is
bringing out a series of collections of essays on representative texts of
contemporary writers. The titles will address different issues
related to theme, plot, character sketches, comparative studies and
theoretical analysis of particular texts. Contributions are hereby invited
on Amitav Ghosh’s The Shadow Lines for incorporation in a volume to be
brought out within 2008. The contributors will be sent complimentary
copies of the volume they publish in. The essays should be within 4500-
7000 words, and engage contemporary theoretical issues.

Topics might include, but are not limited to:
• thematic analysis;
• background study;
• narrative technique;
• history of Partition;
• theme of communal and political violence;
• memory;
• nationalism and national identity;
• shadowy boundaries and porosity of borders;
• the relation between identity, memory and birthplace;
• critical perspectives on the novel as a whole;
• community identity;
• character sketches (Thamma, Tridib, Ila, May, The narrator);
• comparative analysis with othe novels of past and present;
• comparative study with other forms of art (like films and theatre);
• new modes of perception and readership;
• theoretical foregrounding of the novel.

If you wish to contribute please send the abstracts of your paper to
Sandip Ain by 15th August, 2008 at ain.sandip_at_gmail.com as an
in MS Word. Completed essays should be submitted at the same e-mail
address by 30th August, 2008. The essays should conform to the MLA style
specifications of in-text author-date citation and be double-spaced.
