full name / name of organization:
the minnesota review, a journal of literary and cultural studies, invites submissions for a special
issue on animals and animal studies: “The Feral Issue.†Our goal is to reflect on the state of
animal studies now and on directions for the future, as well as to expand the conversation about
animals in the context of a journal devoted to cultural politics. Essays may address the
contemporary moment or any time in history, and we welcome contributions from any discipline
or critical perspective.
We hope that contributors will take advantage of the several genres minnesota review publishes:
•Revaluations—short essays that ask readers to reconsider a person, movement or text, and its
continuing relevance or lack thereof.
•Provocations—short essays that take a position or attack received opinion.
•Review Essays—essays that discuss a group of books signaling a trend or that review one book,
indicating its position in a larger context.
•Interviews—with scholars or activists who are important to the field of animal studies.
•Poetry and short fiction.
the minnesota review is known for publishing shorter, sharper commentary than many other
scholarly journals, so we encourage potential contributors to visit our website to get a sense of
the style of writing in our journal and to see examples of each genre.
Email editors_at_theminnesotareview.org with queries or proposals by April 1, 2009.
Manuscripts should be submitted no later than May 1, 2009.
Please see our website at www.theminnesotareview.org for submission guidelines, and feel free
