CFP: D. H. Lawrence's Circle and Short Stories

The D. H. Lawrence Society of North American (DHLSNA) invites individuals to submit abstracts
for consideration for the 2009 MLA meeting in Philadelphia (which will be held from December
27th through 30th).
The DHLSNA is organizing two panels: "D. H. Lawrence's Circle" and "D. H.
Lawrence's Short Stories." For the "D. H. Lawrence's Short Stories" panel, we are interested in
projects of theoretical, biographical, literary, or cultural interest involving one or more of the
For the "D. H. Lawrence's Circle" panel, we invite proposals about a friend or friends of the
Lawrences, and how their lives and work intersected. Although not a coterie because it was not
that close-knit, Lawrence's friends constitute some of the most famous or interesting thinkers
and creators of the early-twentieth century. In addition, his relationships with some of these
people were extraordinary, due to his intensity and theirs, and the very high premium he placed
We welcome abstracts of 250 words that address either topic and that demonstrate an innovative
scholarly approach to primary texts while simultaneously addressing important critical
approaches to Lawrence.

Those whose papers are chosen for presentation at MLA conference will need to be members of
the MLA by April 7 in order to qualify for the panel. Signing up and paying only takes a few
minutes, at www.mla.org. Also, panelists will need to be members of the DHLSNA in order to
