CALL FOR PAPERS

Philament, an international online peer-reviewed journal of postgraduate
scholarship in the fields of cultural studies and the literary arts, now
invites contributors for its fourth edition, UNTITLED. After two consecutive
topic issues, UNTITLED is to be a break from theme, and yet a theme in itself.
Contributors are invited to put forward submissions that are of any nature and
on any subject, however we also hope to encourage the exploration of UNTITLED
as its own specific concept.

For instance, UNTITLED might be understood in relation to: artistic identity
and authority in visual, literary and/or musical arts (and conversely the
impact of the absence of this authority upon a text's consumer). text and
textuality - the untitled work, the anonymous work, the psyeudonymous work,
hidden tracks. plagiarism. artistic ambiguity. names or the lack thereof (think
Foucault) - sex, gender, queer, feminist, the inexpressible. the open ended.
emotions, or conversely, bodies. Open or closed? Revealed or hidden? Confused?
We are too!

Submissions must be received by Friday April 16, 2004 and earlier submissions
are encouraged.

Contributors are encouraged to submit self-contained pieces that meet any of
the following criteria:

Long academic papers: up to 8000 words

Please note:
Poetry submissions will be limited to 5 pieces of unspecified length.
All submissions may be sent electronically via email, CD or PC-formatted disk
and must be in Microsoft Word format. Emails must indicate clearly (both in the
subject line and body) the issue for which the submission is relevant and the
category within which it is to be considered (eg. UNTITLED: Commentary).

Academic papers must conform to the Philament house style (based on the Chicago
Manual of Style) as outlined in the Submissions section of the journal website:
www.arts.usyd.edu.au/publications/philament/submissions.htm

Submissions must be accompanied by a brief biographical summary of the author,
which should include information on the inspiration for or genesis of the
submitted work.

Philament will only accept submissions that have not been previously published
and are not under consideration elsewhere.

All copyright remains with contributors, but subsequent publication of works
included in any Philament issue must acknowledge Philament as the site of
initial publication.
