UPDATE: The Fiction of Nonfiction (grad) (2/16/07; (dis)junctions, 4/6/07-4/7/07)full name / name of organization: mpodo001_at_student.ucr.edu contact email: mpodo001@student.ucr.edu UPDATE: The Fiction of Nonfiction (grad) (2/16/07; (dis)junctions, 4/6/07-4/7/07) This call for papers is for a proposed panel to be held at (dis)junctions 2007: Malappropriation Nation at the University of California Riverside’s 14th Annual Humanities Graduate Conference on April 6-7, 2007. The recent controversy around James Frey’s A Million Little Pieces has exposed several key concerns around the writing of nonfiction. Considering the fact that many “fictional†books contain autobiographical details and that “nonfiction’s†claims to truth have been undercut by poststructuralist criticism of many stripes, has the fiction/ nonfiction binary been rendered useless? With this in mind, contributors are invited to submit papers that address any aspect of the fiction/ nonfiction controversy. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: Is there such a thing as fiction? In addition to critical examinations of the above themes, creative works that consciously blur the binary of fiction/ nonfiction are also encouraged.
