CALL FOR PAPERS - PERSPECTIVES

ManuScript, the Postgraduate Journal of English and American Studies, in the
School of Arts, Histories and Cultures, University of Manchester, invites
papers from postgraduates within English, American, Literary and Cultural
studies programmes to be published online. This online issue of ManuScript will
extend the debates from our conference, which took place on 27 May 2005, on the
broad theme of "Perspectives."

The focus will be on the concept of "perspective" and how a point of view
informs the inception, creation and critical interpretation of texts.
Subjective conditions are clearly fundamental to how we read our objects of
inquiry, as well as how those objects were themselves formed by a given
climate. As the word itself implies, a perspective is partial, incomplete and
non-totalising, and this is consistent with our egalitarian ethos with respect
to all areas of the humanities and individual identities. With this in mind,
openness to different outlooks will usually engender novelty, stir the
imagination and forge new connections, whilst at the same time resisting all
forms of dogmatism, leaving the question of truth in suspension - the enigma
that stimulates further debate and inquiry.

Papers are encouraged from a diversity of fields and trans-disciplinary
viewpoints. Possible topics may include but are not limited to:
Subject positions within culture
Modes of spectatorship
Theories of alterity/difference
Schools of criticism
Socio-historical contexts
Proximity, margins and distance
Methodologies/critical lenses
Modes of representation/media
Concepts of authorship
Forms of narration

Submission deadline is Friday, 1 June 2007 for papers of no less than 4000 and
no more than 8,000 words, should be emailed to manuscript_at_manchester.ac.uk
(preferably as a Microsoft Word attachment). The submitted papers will be
peer-reviewed.

Alternatively, you can submit work by sending two hard copies via post to:
