Finding Our Voice:
Presentations of Performance and Pedagogy
The Seventh Annual UW-Madison Graduate Theatre Conference

Call for Proposals
October 6, 2007

We invite graduate students throughout the Midwest and beyond to submit
proposals for the 7th annual Graduate Theatre Conference to be held in
Madison, Wisconsin on Oct. 6th, 2007. The Theatre and Drama Graduate
Student Organization seeks any and all presentations that examine theatre
from the classical to the avant-garde, textual to improvisation. We
welcome proposals for papers, panels, roundtable sessions and workshops
that explore voice and agency in playwriting, performance, design,
pedagogy, as well as the spaces and histories which those voices fill.

Possible Topics Include (but are not limited to):

*Voice as a performance pedagogy
*Voice as an expression of community/regional/global identity
*Vocal performance distinct from print or visual texts
*Voice as a metaphor for individual agency or creative identity
*Voice as a synonym for voting, reporting, advocacy, and propaganda
*Archiving and dramatizing testimony

The requisites for conference proposals are broad and inclusive; our intent
is to provide an opportunity for graduate students to showcase their work,
interact with different departments and programs, and essentially “find our
voice” in an emerging community of theatre artists, teachers, and scholars.

Please submit proposals of 500 words or less along with your presentation
title; do not include the name of the author on the proposal
page/attachment. On a separate attachment list the following information:
title of presentation, presenter’s name, university and department
affiliation, mailing address, email address, and if your presentation
requires A/V support.

We will award two $100 travel scholarships to proposals which best address
the conference theme.

Submission deadline is Sept. 5, 2007.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than September 7, 2007.

Proposals and questions may be emailed to: pdecker_at_wisc.edu
Please include the words “conference proposal” in the subject line of your
email.
