Conference Dates: March 14-15, 2008
Just as we assign meaning to spaces - sacred, pedagogical, domestic,
industrial - the spaces we inhabit shape our individual and cultural
identities.
This interdisciplinary conference, featuring keynote speakers Professor
Douglas Crimp (University of Rochester) and Professor Aruna D’Souza
(Binghamton University), seeks to explore transgressions and
transformations of space though appropriations, reclamations, and other
interventionist activities.
We invite papers from all areas of study engaging topics that include but
are not limited to:
• Exchange (cultural, social, economic, gender)
• Recycled, re-appropriated sites
• Conventional, alternative spaces
• Marginalia, liminal spaces
• Public, private spaces
• Material, virtual, discursive spaces
• Exile, migration
• Heterotopias
