full name / name of organization:
Philosophy and the Event is a graduate student conference that will be held at Emory University
from 02/29/08-03/01/08 focusing on the notion of the event in postmodern thought and its roots
in the history of philosophy. The keynote speaker will be John D. Caputo. We are calling for papers
that deal with the notion of the event in such thinkers as Caputo, Heidegger, Derrida, Deleuze,
Badiou, Benjamin, Zizek, etc. Especially, we are looking for papers that tie the notion of the event
to postmodernism as a whole movement and attempt to show how an emphasis on the event
characterizes philosophy today as distinct from or fundamentally similar to other movements in the
history of philosophy. Submissions must be suitable for blind review and no longer than 15pp.
Deadline: 01/15/08. Email submissions to emorell_at_emory.edu.
