CFP: [Graduate] Literature and "Music"
FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS
"LITERATURE AND MUSIC"
"Literature and Music" is the first of a series of graduate conferences,
organized annually by the Department of American Culture and Literature
at Istanbul University. It is part of the "Literature and ..."
conferences, the aim of which is to establish an intellectual platform
for the discussion of literature in relation to other systems of
signification and representation including the cultural, social,
political, historical and so on.
"Literature and Music," the first in the series, aims to explore the ways
in which the two arts interact and influence each other. Topics may
include, but are not limited to;
â€¢ Music and musicians in literary texts
â€¢ Music as form in literary texts
â€¢ Musical forms in literature, literary forms in music
â€¢ Narrative strategies in music
â€¢ Literature and opera
â€¢ Poetry as music
â€¢ Songs and bards: ancient and contemporary
â€¢ Generic parallels between music and literature
â€¢ The musical
â€¢ The poetics of Hip Hop
â€¢ Jazz and Blues as content and form in literature
The conference will be held in May 2008. Individual papers as well as
panel discussions and workshops are welcome. The exact dates and venue
will be announced in the second call for papers. Deadline for abstract
submissions is 28 January 2008. Proposals should be approximately 250-
