The works of J.R.R. Tolkien have enjoyed a recent upsurge in popularity in
both scholarship and popular culture; in keeping with this year’s
conference theme, we are interested in how these works transcend boundaries
of space, time, and media to retain their appeal. Some possible topics (but
contributors are not limited to these) may include:
Film (or other) adaptations of the Lord of the Rings
Appeal in international countries
Use of myth and history
Critical history or popular culture response
Performance, music and song in the texts
The construction of heroism
Gender questions
Tolkien and the Great War
The fantasy genre
