PoliText: How Writers Respond to Political Issues March 28, 2009 9:00am-
Although some may argue that everything is political, there are certain
moments in history that have a particular political intensity. At those
significant times, writers across the globe involve themselves in the
political scene and their texts - both literary and non-literary - engage
in the political environment. The theme "PoliText" has been chose for
AGSE's 2009 Graduate Student Conference to highlight the intersection of
politics and text - whether the texts be written or visual, literary or
rhetorical analysis or original creative work.
AGSE invites submissions from graduate students of all disciplines on
topics that address, complicate or illustrate the concept of "PoliText."
Possible topics include (but are not restricted to) the intersection of
* Dramatic/Performative works
* Historical texts
* Literature/Literary theory
* Lyrical texts
* Visual texts
* Web 2.0 texts (blogs, websites, wikis, etc.)
We also welcome submissions related to this theme that are original
Papers from all disciplines are welcome. Please send abstracts of no
longer than 250 words to AGSE Secretary Juliette Diggs at
agse2009_at_gmail.com. Abstracts are a brief overview of the presentation
and should include: 1.) subject/topic of presentation; 2.)
argument/hypothesis; and 3.) any theoretical applications. Please include
your full name, contact information as well as institutional and
Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length and can be either a reading
of a research paper/original creative work OR an oral presentation
(visuals are encouraged).
You will receive an email confirmation upon receipt of your abstract. The
deadline for submissions is February 27, 2009.
Due to budgetary constraints, we will be unable to provide funding for
travel and lodging. We apologize and sincerely hope this will not deter
those interested in submitting.
