Call for Papers: American Studies area

Southwest/Texas Popular Culture / American Culture Associations

29th Annual Conference, February 13-16, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico

The 2008 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Hyatt
Regency downtown. Further details about the conference are available at http://www.h-
net.org/~swpca.

Sessions now forming for the “American Studies” area. Email 250-word abstracts for individual
presentations—or 500-word abstracts for panel proposals—to Area Chair Paul D. Reich (English
Department, Rollins College) at preich_at_rollins.edu. Please include a current CV or bio. The
submission deadline is November 1, 2007.

Scholars, teachers, professionals, and others interested in American Studies are encouraged to
participate. Graduate students are particularly welcome with award opportunities for best
graduate papers.

Panels and individual presentations in the broad area of American Studies should be concerned
with the cultures of the United States, but comparative studies and/or perspectives on the
transnational, global nature of American culture are also welcome. Given the location of the
conference, work on the American West is especially encouraged. Regardless of subject,
presentations in this area should be interdisciplinary, drawing from multiple methodologies and
perspectives.

All presenters, once accepted, must register by January 15, 2008. Registration is available online
at SW/TX PCA/ACA website: http://www.h-net.org/~swpca. All participants who register before
December 15 will receive a discounted rate, while those registering between December 15 and
January 15 will pay the full conference rate. Hotel reservation information can also be found on
the wesbsite.
