CFP: The Early Modern Inns of Court (UK) (6/1/05; 9/14/06-9/16/06)full name / name of organization: Jayne Archer contact email: J.E.Archer@warwick.ac.uk CALL FOR PAPERS, 'THE INTELLECTUAL AND CULTURAL WORLD An international conference Sponsored by the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance, University of Warwick. An international and interdisciplinary conference on the early modern Inns of Court will be held at the Courtauld Institute, London on September 14-16, 2006. Thirty-minute papers are sought which could focus on various aspects of the early modern Inns, particularly the visual arts, music, architecture, and the function of the Inns as performance spaces. Religious, political and social currents at the Inns, literary production, formal and informal modes of pedagogical and professional instruction, relations between the Inns and other educational, social and vocational institutions, and their function and significance within the cityscape of early modern London will also be of interest. Paper abstracts of 200-300 words should be sent preferably as e-mail attachments to the conference organisers, Dr Jayne Archer (jayne.archer_at_warwick.ac.uk), Dr Elizabeth Goldring (elizabeth.goldring_at_warwick.ac.uk), and Dr Sarah Knight (sk218_at_le.ac.uk ). Abstracts should reach the organisers by June 1, 2005.
