Invitation and Call for Papers

The Jagiellonian University Joseph Conrad Research Centre and Joseph
Conrad Society (Poland) invite Conrad scholars to take part in a
conference to be held at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow from
22nd to 26th September 2007.

The focal theme of the conference, commemorating the 150th anniversary
of Conrad's birth, is:

"The reception of the work of Joseph Conrad -- readers real and implied."

Papers using the 'reader's response' approach are particularly welcome.

The plenary speakers at the conference will be:

1. Andrzej Busza, University of British Columbia, Canada (ret.)
2. Terry Collits, Latrobe University, Australia
3. Anthony Fothergill, University of Exeter, U.K.
4. Jakob Lothe, Oslo University, Norway
5. Peter Mallios, Univ. of Maryland, USA
6. Josiane Paccaud-Huguet, Universit=E9 de Lyon, France
7. Allan Simmons, St. Mary's College, London, U.K.

The conference fee is 100 Euros. (For participants from Poland NPL
200; members of Joseph Conrad Society {Poland} are exempt).

We expect the cost of accommodation & meals to be between 300 and 400
Euros, depending on the number of participants.

-- The deadline for proposing papers and/or registering participation
has been extended to 25th April 2007.

-- The deadline for sending abstracts is 30th April 2007.

-- The deadline for payment of the conference fee is 15th June 2007.
