In recent years a paradigm shift has been underway in the humanities and
the social sciences. This shift has resulted in the declining influence of
"constructionism," where the body's meaningfulness is understood in terms
of social practices, and the rising influence of theories of embodiment
that take fuller account of the body's materiality and its physical
situatedness. This two-day symposium will explore how the critical turn to
embodiment has impacted our understanding of technology, communication, and
community.
