Jazz Music in African-American Literature and Poetry

Call for papers on jazz music in African-American literature and poetry
for the seventh annual graduate English conference entitled
“Encountering the Text: Reading, Teaching, Theorizing, and Writing” at
Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT on Saturday,
April 22 from 9:00 a.m. â€" 4:30 p.m.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to, interpretations of
literary (and non-literary) texts, receptions of texts, adaptations of
texts, the cultural significance of various texts, intertextuality
between jazz music and African-American literature/poetry, the origin
or evolution of varying texts, and the role of performance in
African-American literature/poetry.

Panels will be one and a half hours long. Presentations will be 15 â€"
20 minutes long (papers should be 6 â€" 8 pages in length). A proposal
for a paper should consist of a 250 â€" 350 word abstract. Paper
proposals must also include the paper title, and the name, day and
evening phone numbers, fax number, e-mail address, surface mail
address, and institutional affiliation of the presenter.
