The Publications Committee of the South Carolina Traditional Arts Network
(SCTAN) is proud to announce the planned publication of an edited volume on
folklore and folklife of South Carolina. The volume will be published by
the University of South Carolina Press.
We have just signed a contract with USC Press and have promised delivery of
all manuscripts by March 2004. All royalties from book sales will be
donated to SCTAN.
The purposes of the volume are to promote South Carolina folk traditions to
a wider audience, to increase community awareness of and pride in local
traditions, and to increase our state's awareness of our own cultural
diversity. The anticipated audience will be high school students, college
students, the general public, and state visitors. We are especially
interested in contributions from and about the state's under-represented
communities and groups.
We anticipate a total volume of 20 articles, which should be no longer than
20 pages in length and written for a non-scholarly college-educated
audience. Citations should be in the form of endnotes. Photos should
black/white glossies.
Contributors please send completed manuscripts to Mike Coggeshall, Dept. of
Sociology, 132 Brackett Hall, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634-1356.
Manuscripts MUST be received by March 15, 2004.
For more information, please contact me at the editors: John Michael
Coggeshall at 864-656-3822 or via email at raucus_at_clemson.edu or Stephen
Criswell at 803-253-5221 or secriswell_at_hotmail.com. Since we now have a
publisher and finalized contract, this will be our final call for
contributions.
