Image (&) Narrative, a refereed online journal based at K.U. Leuven in=20
Belgium, seeks contributions on the topic of =E2=80=9CLiterary illustration=
: pros and cons.
=E2=80=9D Several years ago, we published an issue on =E2=80=9CIllustration=
,=E2=80=9D and we are=20
now seeking to deepen our understanding of the relationships between litera=
ry=20
reading, illustration, and the web.=20
=20
We are, therefore, seeking two types of contributions. First, we would like=
=20
to see a very specific type of illustration, namely online =E2=80=9Cindepen=
dent=20
illustrative networks=E2=80=9D that function not as simple =E2=80=9Cillustr=
ations,=E2=80=9D but as=20
visual-digital =E2=80=9Ccomplements=E2=80=9D of a given work. These might b=
e links to works of=20
fiction, poetry, drama etc that serve as a complementary database of inform=
ation=20
to the =E2=80=9Cactual=E2=80=9D reading of the text.=20
=20
Second, we would like to gather a broad survey of current theoretical=20
opinions in the field. Diversity will be fostered as much as possible. Ther=
efore,=20
all essays should take the form of a short theoretical statement (maximum 1=
000=20
words, with no footnotes) on the problem of illustrating (or not) literary=20
material. Since, as far as we know, there does not exist a =E2=80=9Cstandar=
d=E2=80=9D general=20
publication on illustration, this gathering of ideas might be a first step=20
towards such a work.

ndgren_at_uwb.edu_=20
