CFP: South Carolina Folklife (3/15/04; collection)
The Publications Committee of the South Carolina Traditional Arts Network
(SCTAN) is proud to announce the planned publication of an edited volume on
folklore and folklife of South Carolina. The volume will be published by
the University of South Carolina Press.
We have just signed a contract with USC Press and have promised delivery of
all manuscripts by March 2004. All royalties from book sales will be
donated to SCTAN.
The purposes of the volume are to promote South Carolina folk traditions to
a wider audience, to increase community awareness of and pride in local
traditions, and to increase our state's awareness of our own cultural
diversity. The anticipated audience will be high school students, college
students, the general public, and state visitors. We are especially
interested in contributions from and about the state's under-represented
communities and groups.
We anticipate a total volume of 20 articles, which should be no longer than
20 pages in length and written for a non-scholarly college-educated
audience. Citations should be in the form of endnotes. Photos should
