CALL FOR PAPERS: CHICK LIT, CHICK FLICKS

We are seeking contributions for an edited collection of essays on the
subject of chick lit and chick flicks. The book will be intended for an
informed popular audience interested in literature, film, women's studies
and cultural studies. The collection of approximately fifteen original
essays will examine the chick lit/chick flick phenomenon from a variety of
angles, accounting for both its popularity and the reactions it has
provoked. We envision the book divided into three parts: (1) introductory
and cultural-historical analyses, defining the genre, its origins, current
trends and future possibilities; (2) critical essays on the genre and its
influence; and (3) readings of individual works, either literature, film,
or both. We expect the completed work to provide a detailed contemporary
portrait of a vibrant cultural phenomenon.

If you are interested in contributing to this project, please respond by
May 1, 2004 with a brief description of your proposed essay. For further
information, feel free to contact us.
