"Beyond Jeopardy: Adapting Collaborative Games for the Writing
Classroom"

Forthcoming Anthology.

Call for Essays on adapting games for the writing classroom, including
college composition, developmental, intro to literature courses, ESL,
and/or 12th grade English. Practical approach preferred over
theoretical -- grounding in theory encouraged, but not required.
Looking for experienced methods that have been tested and ideally
resulted in positive student performance and feedback.

Possible game types: Game shows (Pyramid, Family Feud, Millionaire,
Wheel of Fortune, etc); Board games (Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit); Word
Games (Boggle); Card games (Ex Libris); Children's Games (Blue's Clues,
etc). Any game with rules that can be adapted to the teaching of
beginning writing and/or critical reading, and can be enjoyed by the
students at this level.

Essays should be 2,000 to 4,000 words, and should include:

*Ways of adapting the game to the classroom. What courses to use it in.
Methods, preparations, equipment, student assignments. How the game is
managed from beginning to end. How the game is scored, if it is scored,
and other ways to assess performance.
*Lessons the game encourages and/or reinforces. How the game fits into
the larger goals of the course.
*Actual classroom experience playing the game.
*Examples of student feedback/learning.

Casual writing style preferred -- conversational, peer to peer. Include
all information one would need to play your game in his/her classroom
immediately.
