Session Title: Medieval Disputation

The UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS), in honor of
the 2007-2008 John E. Sawyer Seminar on disputation sponsored by the
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, would like to invite papers on all areas of
medieval disputation for a session at the Leeds International Medieval
Congress 7-10 July 2008. Paper topics may address any area of medieval
disputation and rhetoric as well as any of the following seminar topics:

Disputations on faith
Disputation and philosophy
Disputation and love
Debate poetry
Disputation and sedition
Disputation as drama
The condemnation of disputation
Male and female responses to disputation
The role of disputation in reason and faith

Preference will be given to papers that present a cross-discplinary or
cross-geographic perspective. Papers should be no longer than 20
minutes. Please send abstracts of up to 250 words by September 20, 2007,
to Jennifer Smith (jatsmith_at_ucla.edu). Paper copies are welcome, but
electronic copies are preferred.
