I am pleased to announce the University of Bristol's 15th Annual
Postgraduate Medieval Conference. This popular interdisciplinary event,
hosted by the University of Bristol's Centre for Medieval Studies, provides
an excellent opportunity for postgraduates to gain conference experience in
a friendly environment, share their research with other postgraduates and
meet peers in shared or related fields. Please find details below. Kind

15th Annual Postgraduate Medieval Conference
20th-21st February 2009

In recognition of the University of Bristol's Centenary we are pleased to
invite papers from postgraduate medievalists of any discipline on the theme
of "Tradition and Renewal". Topics may include, but are not limited to:

- Family, community, and national traditions in the Middle Ages
- Memory and medieval perceptions of the past, present and future
- Challenges to tradition such as heresy, technology, design, social conflict
- Scientific, intellectual and political developments
- Religious attitudes towards tradition and renewal
- Conformity and non-conformity
- Reception of verbal and visual authorities
- Ideas of Renaissance, renewal and preservation
- Traditions associated with particular spaces or dates
- Architectural traditions: restoration or redevelopment
- New methods of interpreting and representing the history of the Middle Ages

Papers should be 20 minutes long.

Abstracts of up to 400 words can be sent by email (for preference) to:
