“Melville and the End(s) of Philosophyâ€
This panel, sponsored by the Melville Society, explores the relationship between Melville’s writings
and philosophy broadly construed. To what ends does Melville put philosophy? Does he see
philosophy reaching a telos or losing its legitimacy? How does he draw on philosophical traditions
and/or anticipate changes in philosophy? What are the boundaries of philosophy, particularly in
relation to other domains of thought and social practice? Send 250-500 word abstracts to Maurice
S. Lee at molee_at_bu.edu by January 5. Please include abstracts in the body of the email and as an
attachment.
