Lowell and his circle. The Society invites proposals for two sessions at
the May 2008 ALA conference in San Francisco.
The first session will be entitled “Robert Lowell and the Anxieties of
Empire.†We solicit papers of 15-20 minutes in length concerning any
aspect of this topic. Those interested in participating should email a one-
paragraph abstract along with a short bio (no more than one page) to
Professor Thomas Travisano at travisanot_at_hartwick.edu Queries are welcome.
Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2008.
The second session will be a workshop entitled “Teaching Robert Lowell.â€
This session will begin with five-minute teaching statements or
demonstrations, accompanied by handouts. Presentations that demonstrate
innovative methods or address the challenges of teaching Lowell today will
be particularly welcome. The session will then center on a teaching
conversation, framed by the initial statements or demonstrations, and
carried out by all participants in the room. Those interested in serving
as one of the initial presenters should email a one-paragraph abstract
along with a short bio (no more than one page) to Professor Steven Gould

submissions is January 15, 2008.
