The Charles Olson Society invites proposals that focus on Olson's
interest in Early American literature and culture. Although the topic is
construed broadly, papers dealing with specific issues or figures in
relation to Olson's work are preferred. Some possible themes might
include geo-history and cartography, locality and migration, John
Smith, "The Vinland Map Review," Puritan New England, the finding and
founding of Gloucester, or the Maya. One could also explore how Olson's
writing on early America converges or conflicts with that of Melville,
Thoreau, Pound, Crane, Lawrence, Williams, Perry Miller, Carl O. Sauer,
Susan Howe, Thomas Pynchon, Hakim Bey, et al.
250-word proposals should be sent to Michael Jonik at mj636318_at_albany.edu
and to Gary Grieve-Carlson at grieveca_at_lvc.edu by December 1, 2008.
Please include your name, institutional affiliation (if any), e-mail
address, and AV needs (if any).
