Indian English literature has come a long way since its inception. No
doubt, in today’s era of globalization, fiction has got an upper hand but
poetry cannot be ignored in any age even though being on the margins. In
India, much to the envy of other forms of writing, it was poetry that
initiated the tradition of bagging the Nobel Prize for literature with
Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali. Indian poetry in English, which has
established its identity, is rich and varied in conception and execution.
Innumerable worthy Indian poets are contributing their gems to the corpus
of English Poetry. Prof. Niranjan Mohanty is one such name who raised
numerous issues related to man and contemporary society through his
poetry. But, on July 28 2008, his sudden demise shocked the literary
world. His untimely departure is certainly an irreparable loss to Indian
Poetry in English.

Niranjan Mohanty, who had many more poetic volumes still in the offing,
evoked multiple responses and took cues from life since he was very close
to the Indian soil, faith and values. To pay tribute to such a poetic
genius, we are going to publish a comprehensive anthology that will
interpret all the facets of his poetry. We invite students, teachers and
lovers of Indian English Poetry to contribute a 10-15 pages (double-
spaced) paper with latest edition of MLA style sheet documentation. The
papers will be reviewed by eminent scholars of poetry before being
included in the anthology. The anthology will be published by a reputed
Indian publisher and all the contributors will receive a complimentary
copy of the book.

Interested scholars are requested to submit a 150-200 words’ abstract
(and later the papers in hard as well as soft copy) through e-mail MS-
Word (2000-2003 version) attachment to either Dr. Binod Mishra at or Dr. Sudhir K Arora at
latest before 31st January, 2009. In case of any query, either of the
editors may be contacted at their postal address too:
