Salman Rushdie’s work is overflowing with visual images. Essays are
invited for a collection of essays tentatively entitled Salman Rushdie
and Visual Culture(s) that seeks to shed light on Rushdie’s fictional and
non-fictional writings and their various connections with visual culture
(s). In the pursuit of its aims, the collection does not intend to set
aside textuality, but draws it into dialogue with visuality. Some
possible topics for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- film;
- photography;
- painting;
- sculpture;
- advertising;
- television;
A reputed academic publisher has shown interest in publishing the
collection and is waiting on a detailed proposal. Please send abstracts
of up to 500 words, including a short cv, to Ana Mendes
(anafmendes_at_gmail.com), University of Lisbon Center for English
Studies, Portugal, by 3 December, 2008.
