CFP: [American] ASA 2008: Seeking third panelist
I am seeking a third panelist for session proposal “Legal Borderlands,†to
be submitted to the American Studies Association, for the ASA’s annual
conference in Albuquerque, NM, October 16-19, 2008.
Andrew Hebard writes that "legal borderlands" consist of "sites where the
state is emerging and where the territorial and legal limits of the United
States are being negotiated," bringing "state sovereignty into our
consideration of the relation between representation and power." This panel
will address moments of convergence of law, conceptions of the law, or
law-related phenomenon (such as sovereignty) and representation. Also of
interest are papers that explore the “cultural workers†like artists,
writers, intellectuals, and academics involved in such emergent moments.
Other notable figures of interest include war correspondents, politicians,
Please submit an abstract and CV by January 23, 2008 to Nirmal Trivedi,
Boston College, at trivedni_at_bc.edu. All ranks and disciplinary backgrounds
welcome, as are informal inquiries.
