2006 College English Association (CEA) Conference, San Antonio, Texas
April 6-April 8, 2006

The NYCEA is sponsoring a Special session on "Chairing the English
Department of the 21st Century: Critical Issues, Critical Challenges"

Please note the following updates:
Our keynote speakers will be WJT Mitchell and Rolondo Hinojosa-Smith.

We have also changed our submission procedure, now using a
proposal submission site (submissions URL indicated below), for the
panel described below.

Special Panel description:
We hope to receive proposals on issues that address new challenges
and/or unresolved, ongoing challenges that face English Departments as
they forge ahead into a new century filled with internal and external
political, economic, and ideological forces that create and shape the
challenges with which Chairs and their faculty must contend as they
follow their missions, compete for resources, shape their curricula,
mentor their faculty, implement their pedagogies, meet the needs of
their students, and interact with the world outside of the academy.

CEA is a lively organization and its annual conference has always
celebrated scholarly activity in many forms: through sessions on
literary theory and literary interpretation, on writing theory, and on
pedagogical approaches and innovation in the writing and literature
classrooms. With this new addition of a session(s) on Chairing to our
annual conference, we hope to create an annual venue to discuss factors
that impact the atmosphere and procedures of and the governance in the
place where we do our work.

Papers must be no more than 15 minutes in reading length.

The submission requirements are as follow:

1) Please submit proposals of 400-500 words, using the CEA proposal
submission site at the URL www.english.ttu.edu/cea/index.html
You will be able to indicate it as a submission to the NYCEA special session.

If you had already submitted a
proposal via post or email to Dr. Joseph Pestino, he will input your
proposal into the CEA proposal submission site for you, but if you
haven't submitted your proposal yet, please use the submission site listed
above.

2) Those who submit proposals for the panel(s) on chairing issues will be
notified by 5 December 2005 of CEA's decision on acceptance of the panel.

3) All presenters must be paid members of CEA by 1 January 2006.

Again, send proposals via the CEA submission web site at URL
www.english.ttu.edu/cea/index.html.
