CFP: [Religion] American Saints and Sainthood in America
American Saints and Sainthood in America
Paper proposals on any and all aspects of Catholic sainthood in the
American context are being solicited for a panel on American Saints and
Sainthood in America for the 2008 Spring Conference of the American
Catholic Historical Association Conference to be held April 3-5, 2008 at
St. Maryâ€™s College, Notre Dame, Indiana.
Possible topics include, but are certainly not limited to: canonization
efforts, paths to sainthood, visual and material culture, devotional cults,
devotional literature, what makes a saint particularly â€œAmerican,â€ American
born canonized saints, shrines, saints on the web, promotional materials,
treatments of non-American born saints by devotees in the US, the saint as
metaphor, representing saints etc. Interdisciplinary approaches are welcomed.
Presentations should be limited to 20 minutes, and presenters are
encouraged to use a lecture-type format. Participants who present papers
must also be or become members of the Association.
